From: Screaming Eagle/James Locklear Brooks, enrolled member of the Lumbee tribe of North Carolina, Native Artist. www.jlbrooksnativeart.com Email info@jlbrooksnativeart.com January 23rd 2004 STATEMENT FROM THE ARTIST Beginning in March, we will start unveiling a series of abstract acrylic paintings entitled “GHOSTDANCERS, Visions of a Legacy”. These paintings will have a distinctive feature, they will be signed “Screaming Eagle”. Every artist prays for the day to come when they are blessed with something exciting they can use in their art that they know will be their “hallmark” or distinctive feature. Plainly speaking, the images created for these acrylics were what I saw in a dream. I believe they are distinctive, stylish and uniquely Indigenous. I also believe that once you see one of these new acrylics, you will want one, and if you ever see another like it elsewhere, you can be certain I painted it. I am thoroughly convinced that these images were gifted to me to use to give something back to my people. Over the years, I have been blessed by being allowed to contribute to various charities and Native Organisations who stand strong in preserving our cultural and spiritual ways. In 2003, I was able to help fund a scholarship for college students from single parent families through the American Indian Mothers Inc. organisation in North Carolina. In continuing to support legitimate American Indian organisations, we have decided that we will donate 50% of ALL proceeds from the “GHOSTDANCERS, Visions of a Legacy” series to American Indian Mothers Inc. of Shannon, North Carolina. The proceeds they receive will be used for the scholarship and to fund ongoing initiatives, such as planting a four-acre vegetable garden this spring, with the crops being used to benefit the needy. American Indian Mothers Inc. has a Board of Directors who are some of the most respected and honourable Indian women elders in North Carolina. Screaming Eagle Art has created the Golden Eagle Feather Award which will be presented to all people who purchase a “GHOSTDANCERS, Visions of a Legacy” acrylic painting. It will consist of the following: Awardees will have their name entered on the Golden eagle Feather Award web page on our site www.jlbrooksnativeart.com and will receive a Certificate of Authenticity from the artist ensuring the genuineness of the painting as a GENUINE INDIAN PRODUCT. Certificates of authenticity for these paintings will note that a portion of the purchase price went to American Indian Mothers Inc. A copy of all Certificates of Authenticity will be sent to American Indian Mothers Inc. (sold pieces). These paintings will be 15 X 22 inches and 18 X 24 inches There will be approximately 25 of the GHOSTDANCER acrylics released in late March, early April 2004. They will be available on a first come first serve basis. Others will be released intermittently as the artist finishes them. We are asking at this time, if you are interested in purchasing one of these paintings, to email info@jlbrooksnativeart.com so that we can place you on the waiting list. The paintings will be offered in the order you contacted us. Once they are available for viewing on the website, or at one of our representatives, we will notify all interested individuals. The asking price is $250. The pieces are not matted or framed and will be shipped UPS insured. This price applies to the 15 X 22 and the18 X 24 inch pieces. For more information on these paintings and the American Indian Mothers Inc., please contact our email. Thank you all in advance for your support in this project. Screaming Eagle……………….
