The United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) is a unique program that will be held in Washington, D.C. from February 26—March 5, 2005. One hundred four students delegates will follow an intensive schedule during this week that will include meetings and briefings with senators, cabinet members and other government officials, as well as, visits to the Senate, House of Representatives, the Supreme Court, the Pentagon, and various Smithsonian museums. A $5,000 college scholarship will be presented to each of the 104 delegates during the Washington visit. High school juniors and seniors who are serving in an elected capacity as class or student council president, vice president, secretary or treasurer, or as a student council representative may apply. Only two students will be selected to represent the state of North Carolina. Interested students may access the USSYP website www.ussenateyouth.org and download the 2005 Announcement Brochure and the 2004 yearbook. Additionally, students may obtain information regarding application procedures by accessing the “Contacts” page on the USSYP website or by contacting their high school principal. The US Senate Youth Program is sponsored by the United States Senate and completely funded and administered by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. The foundation will pay all expenses for the Washington week, including transportation, hotels and meals.
