ARCHIE ERVIN, ASSISTANT TO THE CANCELLOR AND DIRECTOR FOR MINORITY AFFARS AT UNC CHAPEL HILL HAS HELD TO A PROMISE HE MADE TO THOSE OF US WHO ATTENDED THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY RECRUITMENT PLAN FOR AMERICAN INDIAN STUDENTS. A JOB VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT HAS BEEN ISSUED AND APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED THROUGH AUGUST 30, 2004 FOR AN OUTREACH AND SUPPORT PROGRAMS COORDINATOR. THIS INDIVIDUAL WILL ASSIST WITH THE DEVELOPMENT, COORDINATION, AND EVALUATION OF OUTREACH AND SUPPORT PROGRAMS THAT ENHANCE THE ENROLLMENT, SUPPORT, AND RETENTION OF HSTORICALY UNDERREPRESENTED MINORITY, FIRST GENERATION, AND LOW INCOME POPULATIONS IN GENERAL, AND AMERICAN INDIANS IN PARTICULAR. ALTHOUGH A MASTERS DEGREE IS PREFERRED, CANDIDATES WITH A BACHELORS DEGREE AND A COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EXPERIENCES AND EDUCATION MAY BE CONSIDERED (MINIMUM 2 YEARS EXPERIENCE IN HIGHER EDUCATION/PUBLIC EDUCATION); DEMONSTRATED COMPETENCY/KNOWEDGE TO WORK WITH MULTICULTURAL POPULATIONS (ESPECIALLY NATIVE AMERICANS) IN NORTH CAROLINA. EXPERIENCE IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND SUCCESSFUL GRANT WRITING WILL BE A MAJOR PLUS. SALARY WILL RANGE FROM THE HIGH $30k TO MID $40k, DEPENDING UPON CREDENTIALS. STARTING DATE IS PROJECTED FOR OCTOBER 1, 2004.
