I have worked and written grants for groups to recieve HUD funding over the years. What is going on with the Lumbee Housing reminds me of a "sick joke." Common sense would tell anybody "you just don't jump into a million dollar business and try to run it will little or no training." Now, we hear that they are hiring Jimmy Hunt to be the head of New Conctruction. What are his credentials other than the fact "that he knows someone?" In a recent article in the local newspaper a family was "given a home." With payments ranging from $300 to $600 per month. Will someone tell me "what kind of gift is that?" We read of homes being condemned and the LTG goes and buys mobile homes. Then they state "they have no where to put them?" DUH? Take them to the homes of the ones which you have had condemned and give them something to stay in. In any other place in America...this houing program wouldn't be allowed to operate like this. They build people these new homes. And the peopl are unable to make the payments so they go into foreclosure and the house is resold. Please? If we get recognized, I sure don't want them to be handling my Lumbee money. I would rather the goverment send it to me or keep it. THEY DON'T DESERVE TO BE CALLED OUR LEADERS!
