I am constantly mortified by the allegations and the consistent badgering of current tribal leadership, specifically that of the staff. The Lumbee Tribe is setting a precedent that can literally shape an era of tribal sovereignty and enterprise. Yet, our people continually demise the operations and functions of leadership. Instead of uniting our efforts, we divide them. Division is a portal that generates ineffective progress – something that we DON’T need. Assumptions are being made by many about current budget situations, housing regulations, and the powers of tribal administration, yet we never fully bring all the parties together to discuss the “illusions” of Lumbee leadership. Have you ever thought or considered that current leadership adopted the current problems within the administration of the tribe? Have any concessions been made to that thought? I doubt it. We are quick to judge without having all the facts presented to us. It is imperative that we hear both sides and that we then make educated decisions. These fallacies drummed up by one who feels she was somehow wronged are ludicrous. It is horrific to see the “power games” continue, especially considering our state. It is time that Lumbees band together and supports one another without erring to whimsical ideologies. We are a progressive tribe, theoretically, but history has a way of debating that belief. Look at us – pointing fingers, backstabbing and oppressing one another. We are falling into the lure of what the government and European values aggressively instill within the dominant culture – OPPRESSIVENESS. Matter of fact, we have become experts of the notion. If you really have issues regarding the tribe and the operations of the tribe, I urge you to attend the Tribal Council meetings. These meetings will offer some insight into the processes operations and management. I also think that you will see that the Tribal Administrator is restricted in fully practicing/operating in full efficiency because of the council. Decisions ultimately are derived from that unit, NOT Ms. Jacobs, as some of you contend. Moreover, if you still are not convinced, ask to set up a meeting with Ms. Jacobs to discuss your issues and concerns. She is a Godly woman who is open to ideas, suggestions and your concerns… then you make the decision!
