As a member of the NC Foundation for Soil and Water Conservation, I am please to share with the local office in announcing the availability of outdoor environmental learning center grants available to classroom teachers. A pilot project provided funding for 50 outdoor environmental learning center models for hands-on, minds-on learning about nature, the natural environment and protection of the state's land, water, and related resources. These funds were made available from the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation to the NC Foundation for Soil and Water Conservation and to local Soil and Water Conservation Districts. Teachers of fifth and sixth grade students are encouraged to contact their local Soil and Conservation District offices in North Carolina to find out more information about these grants and to obtain information early on to make application for their classroom projects at the beginning of the next school year. Good Luck!
